CHOOSING A RUG

Rugs add impact by enhancing the décor that lies above it. Determining where the rug will be placed is crucial to deciding the size of the rug you purchase. For example, in a 1,2m x 1,8m foyer, a 0,91m x 1,5m rug would look most appropriate. Any smaller and the rug makes no visual impact. Any larger and you lose the “framing” effect a rug creates on the flooring below.

LIVING ROOM

LIVING ROOM

For smaller living rooms, or if you would rather not have furniture on your rug aside from a coffee table, use a 1,5m x 2,4m rug. If you prefer the front legs of your furniture on the rug, go with at least a 2,4m x 3,4m. For oversized furniture or to create a defined space, choose a 2,9m x 4,1m or larger.

DINING ROOM

DINING ROOM

Small Tables
For smaller tables and dining rooms, use a round, square, or 1,5m x 2,4m rug.

Large Tables
For larger dining rooms and tables for six or more people, use a 2,4m x 3,0m or larger to frame the table and chairs. Remember to leave enough room for chairs to slide without catching the edge of the rug!

HOME OFFICE

HOME OFFICE

When choosing a rug for your home office, consider the size of the room, whether you’ll have chairs for clients, and if you want those chairs on the rug as well. Use a 1,5m x 2,4m for smaller offices and a 2,4m x 3,0m for larger areas.

BEDROOM

BEDROOM

King Bed
For king and queen sized beds, layer the rug horizontally underneath. A king size bed calls for at least a 2,4m x 3,0m and usually a 2,7m x 3,7m. Anything smaller will appear out of proportion.

Queen Bed
Both a 2,4m x 3,0m and 2,7m x 3,7m will work, but remember the larger rug has the effect of making the room look bigger.

Full/Twin Bed
Use a 1,5m x 2,4m for full and twin sized beds. Layer the rug horizontally underneath or use a runner next to a bed against the wall.
